Job Description

  • The candidate must assist early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote children’s physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development.
  • The candidate must lead activities such as telling or reading stories, teaching songs, and taking children to local points of interest.
  • The candidate must encourage children to express their creativity through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity.
  • The candidate must engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs, and preparing crafts.
  • The candidate must guide and assist children in developing proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits.
  • The candidate must develop and maintain collaborative relationships with coworkers and community service providers who work with children.
  • The candidate must plan and maintain an environment that protects children’s health, safety, and well-being.
  • The candidate will be responsible for planning and coordinating activities for school-age children in childcare programs before and after regular school hours.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should be fluent in the English language.
  • The candidate must have completed a College, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years.
  • A candidate with experience is an asset.
  • The candidate must have Emergency Child Care, First Aid, and CPR Certification, and an Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate.
  • The candidate must be punctual.
  • The candidate should be dependable.
  • The candidate should have efficient interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate should be flexible.
  • The candidate should have good judgmental skills.
  • The candidate should be reliable.
  • The candidate should be a good team player.
  • The candidate should give importance to values and ethics.

Work setting

  • The candidate should work in a child care center, day nursery, or crèches, probably the most formal childcare setting.
